Text Messaging become way of asking girl out

Posted by admin On August - 6 - 2010

Text Messaging become way of asking girl outAn Australian research on technology habits has revealed that text messages are fast becoming an acceptable way for approaching girls out on dates.

This research was conducted by Telstra and led to the identification of a completely new set of dating rules. It was disclosed by the research that one in every 2 Australians find it acceptable to ask someone on a first date via a text message.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

Telstra Consumer Executive Director Jenny Young said the results aren’t surprising, as the number of mobile phones in Australia exceeded the total population of the country.

“Few aspects of our lives have been influenced as much by technology as our love lives,” the Courier Mail quoted her as saying.

“It’s clear there are now so many more ways for couples to interact than there was 10 years ago, from email to social networking, instant messaging and video calling,” she said.

Some found being asked out on a date via text message to mean that the guy does not have the courage for a face-to-face meet, hence rendering him not worth knowing.

Others found that it’s a great way to ask a girl out, as should she want to turn down the guy, it would be much easier than when the person is right in front.

Last year Telstra handled a massive 8.9 billion text messages and their latest State of Nation report suggests technology is changing the dating landscape altogether with Australians even creating digital dating etiquette and tactics.

Telstra invited the authors of Flirtexting, Debra Goldstein and Olivia Baniuszewicz, to Australia give some tips on technological courtship for educating Australians on the new rules of courtship.

Free site access on mobiles for Facebook Users

Posted by admin On May - 22 - 2010

free site access on mobiles for facebook usersFacebook recently teamed up with 50 wireless operators for offering a stripped-down version of the social networking site to cellphone users. This facility will allow users to access without incurring data charges.

This new site, dubbed 0.facebook.com, can be termed as a text-only version of flagship internet site of Facebook and is particularly designed for mobile phones with limited bandwidth Internet connections.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

The new site will be available beginning on Tuesday in 40 different countries, including Brazil, India, Indonesia and Turkey from a variety of carriers.

The new site comes as the world’s largest Internet social network continues to grow its base and looks for ways to increase the amount of time Web surfers spend using its service.

At the company’s annual developer’s conference last month, Facebook introduced new technology that allows third-party Web sites to integrate Facebook features directly.

Roughly one quarter of Facebook’s 400 million users access the site on mobile devices, according to the company.

But Facebook wants to make the service more accessible to cell phone users who do not own high-end smartphones such as Apple Inc’s iPhone, or phones based on Google Inc’s Android software.

“We are targeting people whose major barrier is they have little experience on the mobile Internet. They want to try it, they want something super simple, super fast. And they are potentially afraid of browsing costs,” said Henri Moissinac, who heads Facebook’s mobile business. “If you take an iPhone user in San Francisco, that’s not his problem.”

Among the carriers partnering with Facebook are Reliance and Videocon in India (with Tata Docomo coming soon), T-Mobile in Hungary and Vodafone in Greece.

Henri Moissinac, who heads Facebook’s mobile business, said though this service is presently not available in the United States, the same is expected in the near future.

Panic button will be discussed with Police by FacebookIn order to discuss child safety issues, executives from Facebook are due for a meeting with a senior UK police offer Monday in Washington.

It is important to note here that the popular social networking site was recently criticized by UK child experts and police officials for not doing much for making it easier for children to report incidents of sexual abuse or bullying.

From Edition.CNN.com:

A Ceop spokeswoman told CNN the agency had received 253 complaints about Facebook in the first quarter of this year and that only one of these had come “through the Facebook environment.”

“We have been trying to engage with Facebook for some time, this meeting is happening after a long build-up.

“More and more children are using Facebook and a panic button would allow them to report potential threats directly. We have experts who can respond immediately.”

Ceop says there is an urgent need to install the button and that it will help both children and parents.

A Facebook spokeswoman told CNN: “We will be discussing many issues, there are lots of initiatives.”

Facebook that claims of having more than 400 million users worldwide has said that it has a “robust” reporting system in place but recent incidents of sexual abuse seem to have “nullified” the claims.

Social Networking – Good or Bad?

Posted by admin On March - 3 - 2010

Social Networking - Good or BadSocial networking sites such as Facebook have reached every corner of the world. More and more people are becoming members of these sites and engaging themselves in social networking. Let us discuss if this is good or bad for all of us.

Nothing in this world can be completely safe and without any negative effects. Social networking is no exception.

In today’s web-dominated world, it is surprising to see how social networking sites have managed to change habits of people across the globe, who are not reluctant any more to share some words with complete strangers or develop new relationships in no time.

Let us now move to the topic of our blog to find an amicable solution.

There is nothing wrong with social networking sites as long as they do not intervene in personal and professional lives. But, this is not the case. In many countries of the world, they have reduced employees’ time on the work seat to a considerable level. Personal relationships have also taken a backseat such is the power of social networking today.

However, things are as perceived. Many people have gained all and lost nothing by using social networking. It is important to note that making use of social sites should not be habitual but purposeful. Things start going the wrong way when habits ride over the purpose.

If used in the right sense, social networking can reduce the gap between nations and their citizens to a considerable extent. Business owners can explore new markets, customers, and what not. Customers can get the feel of market and the best places to buy besides getting lucrative purchase deals. Economy can gain from these gains and this will also result in distribution of gains to all of us over a period of time.

The underlying point is – let the better sense prevail when you switch on the PC to visit a social networking site.

Posted by admin On February - 23 - 2010

Finding a Job on TwitterThe Internet has revolutionized the world and the world of job opportunities has been no exception. You might find it strange that you can find rewarding jobs on Twitter, one of the most popular social networking sites on the Web.

If you are striving to find the perfect job in the pool of employment opportunities, Twitter.com is one social networking site that you just cannot neglect for long. This is simply because Twitter boasts of members who are there just because to find suitable candidates for their business.

How to Start?

Create a Twitter account and use a professional looking avatar. Now, put your job pitch in the bio section and then Tweet about your job search and preferences. Do not forget to include a link to your online resume and make every possible effort to look and act as a professional besides backing up your expertise.

However, it is important for you to check the authenticity of a potential recruiter before visiting the interview place for the career opportunity. This can be done by having a close look at recruiter bio, followers’ ratio, checking the link to the business website, and enquiring about their credibility from your network friends.

Once you are done with all verifications, get ready to face the recruiter in person. But before this, do make sure that you have all your credentials at one place and you are dressed professionally. Stay confident and the world is waiting for you! After all, finding a job on Twitter is easy but the onus of finding the best one still lies with you.

Love the living ones, not the nonliving things

Love the living ones, not the nonliving thingsIn today’s world, no one of us has time to find happiness and many of us who try to find it finds it in strange things and ways. While social networking and drinking at the bar are some of the most-implemented ways to be socialized and get happy, the world is surely going down.

If you think yourself as an exception, let us give you some questions to answer:

  1. When was the last time you really laughed?
  2. When was the last time you helped someone?
  3. Do you love nonliving things more than living beings?
  4. Can you forgive a person who lied or betrayed you?

If answers to the first two questions is more than a day back, yes to the third one, and no to the last one, you can yourself analyze why love and happiness are going out from this world.

Remember, we are human beings and must behave like one. We need to find happiness in natural ways and not in unnatural forms. Happiness is close to you but we need to make efforts to find it out and spread it to all near us. That’s life!

Youth and Social Networking – Made for Each Other

Youth and Social Networking – Made for Each OtherIf one has a close look at some of the most popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Orkut, Twitter, Propeller, and MySpace, it can be easily ascertained that they have been able to evoke and sustain great interest than any other site. The fact that approximately 18.5 billion people, out of which 9.6 billion are youth members, are using these sites for promoting personal and commercial interests besides finding people of similar interests is more than enough for every member of the Youth Brigade to join and reap benefits of social networking.

Social networking is not just about making friends or finding a love interest, but also about promoting existing skills and acquiring new skills through sharing of knowledge. In addition to that, it is a great platform to promote specialized skills and services apart from promoting an entity’s visibility and products.

In short, social networking sites are able to serve multiple purposes that are just unthinkable by others. The fact that most of these services are for free or for a very nominal price makes these sites instant hits with individuals and business striving to make a distinctive niche in the world of promotion and marketing. To conclude, it can be easily said that youth and social networking are made for each other.
