Helping the youth!

Helping the youth! In my last post I talked about how youth in today’s times are so often seen to indulge in reckless behavior. Arrogance marks the prime manifestation of the stress that stays inherent in them today. Yes stress it is and most of us will also be surprised to know this. We many think that how come people indulging in such anti-social behavior be suffering from stress? The answer is simple my friends. Just like I always say that anyone who is happy in his life will never hurt or harm anyone. It is only when discontent arises within them that they spill the same around them. So let’s have a look at some measures we can employ to understand our youth better!

Listen to them!

The first step towards this starts from what we call active listening. You know most of us adults do not feel the need to even talk to youngsters because we think that since we are providing them with the best of everything, they shouldn’t be having any problems after all. Well, whatever best you might be doing for your kid, it may not be what they want to do or be in their best interest. Many of us don’t even give our youth the opportunity to choose what they think is right for them. Even if what you do is in their best interest, they themselves need to derive at this decision on their own. So never try to push them for it. If you do, they will pull away.

Listening actively to youngsters involves actually listening to what they have to say and not assuming what you want them to speak. Most of us do that and end up taking action based on what our demands are from them.

A simple thing that we need to understand here is that there can be a number of things they would want to do. However it is our job to give them choices that will provide an effective method towards them achieving their goal. So many young people get to doing mischief and hang around the streets out of boredom.  A simple way to combat this is to simply listen to them and then channelize their energy into doing something constructive.
