Violence more common among combat veterans’ children

Posted by admin On October - 31 - 2011

Children (including daughters) of parents deployed in the military are more than twice as likely to carry a weapon, join a gang, or be involved in fights, according to a new study.

Violence more common among combat veterans' children

“This study raises serious concerns about an under-recognized consequence of war,” said Sarah Reed, who led the research of military families in Washington state.

From news.yahoo.com:

Last year, nearly 2 million U.S. children had at least one parent serving in the military. Deployment can hurt a family in a variety of ways. There’s stress while that parent is overseas and in danger, as the remaining parent has to shoulder all responsibilities and family roles shift. There can also be challenges after deployed parents’ return, especially if they were physically or psychologically damaged.

The effect of military deployment on kids is an emerging field of research. The new study is considered the first of its kind to focus on those affected by deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. It’s unique in that it looked at a statewide swath of the population in comparing the behavior of kids in military families to children in non-military families.

“Maybe if we make assumptions about children, we may overlook other ways they may be suffering,” said Dr. Gregory Gorman, an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.

British Women's Cancer Toll Is Blamed On LifestyleExperts have warned British women that poor lifestyle choices mean women in the country are 17 per cent more likely to develop cancer than the European average.

Estimates have revealed that about one in four British women will develop cancer by the age of 75 compared with about one in five across Europe.

From Dailymail.co.uk:

Modern lifestyles, including high obesity levels and alcohol consumption, are fuelling the higher than average cancer rate for women here, according to researchers.

Being more physically active, reducing alcohol consumption, keeping to a healthy weight and not smoking can minimise the risk of a number of cancers.

Reasons Why She Will Have Physical Relationship With You – II

In order to start things, you can stroke her forearm first as this will give her a good idea about what is running on your mind besides stimulating her enough to hear her YES. It is now time for you to indulge into prolonged French kissing, this will boost her testosterone, and she will return the favor with a great lick.

Reasons Why She Will Have Physical Relationship With You – 2While in the bed with her, give importance to how she reacts to your touches and what kind of touches melt her down. This will also give you an idea as to which are the body parts she feels insecure about and should be best untouched by them unless you really know the art of convincing her.

Before you two make love, you need to make sure that foreplay has already started before you enter the bedroom. As you enter the lovemaking room, cuddle her and you will notice her testosterone surging leading to arousal. It is worth noting here that women feel more sexually active the morning after cuddling. Therefore, you also need to preserve some of your energy for the morning lovemaking session!

Most men live under a myth that women like men with big muscles. This is absolutely rubbish. On the other hand, men with WWE wrestlers’like personality are considered as threatening and assumed to be on drugs for muscle building.

Moreover, big muscles give women an idea that you might be more interested in shaping your body than spending time with her on a shopping spree. Furthermore, women like men with a good sense of humor and if you have a habit of grinning, it is time for you to change the approach. In addition to that, men hoping for a woman to reciprocate their sexual proposal should better play nice, as tough men do not impress women.

Celebrate single status this Valentine’s Day

Celebrate single status this Valentine's Day

If you are single and not keen to mingle this Valentine’s Day, here are some tips that will help you celebrate your own version of Single’s Day this February the fourteenth.

Throw convention aside and embrace your single status on this Valentine’s Day.

From Retrieverweekly.com:

1. Go off-campus. Get dressed up and venture off campus with a group of single friends. Go out to dinner at your favorite restaurant or catch a movie that you’ve been dying to see. For those who are over 21, check out the Stupid Cupid Party at Ram’s Head. This will give you a much deserved night off from studying.

2. Have a movie marathon. Watching chick flicks will only worsen your sour mood. Instead, get a bunch of friends together and have a scary movie marathon. I suggest My Bloody Valentine, though be warned, it is a typical slasher film. If horror movies aren’t your thing, try movies that are a departure from the typical romantic comedy, such as The Break-Up or He’s Just Not That Into You.

3. Focus on yourself. Instead of moping about being single, spend the night catching up on laundry, organizing your calendar, or getting a head start on homework. At first this may sound kind of lame, but you’ll be surprised at how good you feel when you’re done. You don’t need a significant other to go to bed feeling accomplished.

4. Cook yourself dinner. A home-cooked meal can really improve your mood. On Valentine’s Day, take a break from dining hall food and cook a fancy dinner with some of your friends. Check out http://allrecipes.com for tons of quick and easy meal ideas.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Monogamy a complicated affair for young couples

Monogamy a complicated affair for young couples

A recently concluded study has suggested that the concept of monogamy in young married couples is a complicated issue for many.

Live Science quoted Jocelyn Warren of Oregon State University as saying, “Couples have a hard time talking about these sorts of issues, and I would imagine for young people it’s even more difficult.”

From in.news.yahoo.com:

Monogamy comes up quite a bit as a way to protect against sexually transmitted diseases. But you can see that agreement on whether one is monogamous or not is fraught with issues.”

The study of 434 married and unmarried couples ages 18-25 revealed that about 40 percent of young couples had differing opinions about how exclusive their relationship was, and even among those who were on the same page, about 30 percent reported having cheated.

The only indicator of exclusivity was the emotional commitment the partners reported investing in the relationship, assessed using a scale from 1-5 with 5 being the highest.

Researcher Marie Harvey said that young couples in a monogamous relationship such as a marriage should be encouraged to have protected sex.

The study will be published in an issue of the Journal of Sex Research.

Mind of a woman during an orgasm

Posted by admin On November - 16 - 2010

Mind of a woman during an orgasmA scan developed by American scientists could sneak a peek inside the brain of a woman while she is enjoying orgasm.

Researchers from the Rutgers University were able to discover that that sexual arousal tends to numb the female nervous system to such an extent that she does not feel as much pain-only pleasure.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

Orgasm affects up to 30 different parts of the brain including those responsible for emotion, touch, joy, satisfaction and memory, found researchers.

The researchers asked eight women to stimulate themselves while lying under a blanket inside a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner, a tunnel-like machine often used to detect brain tumours.

Most women took less than five minutes to reach an orgasm although some took as long as 20.

During that time, the MRI scanner took images of their brain every two seconds to show which parts became active during the orgasm.

The scientists found that two minutes before the orgasm, the brain’s reward centres become active, the areas usually activated when eating food and drink.

Immediately before they reached the peak, other areas of the brain became affected such as the sensory cortex, which receives ‘touch’ messages from parts of the body and the thalamus, which relays signals to other parts of the body.

Barry Komisaruk of Rutgers University was quoted as saying women tend to have longer orgasms and can experience several in rapid succession.

Common myths about sex

Posted by admin On September - 13 - 2010

Common myths about sexSex and desire have always been seen as very important parts of human life but most of us tend to ignore the safety and healthy bedroom rules for a quick, unplanned, and steamy session of sex.

Dr. Barry Buffman, a Board Certified urologist and the director of the Los Angeles Boston Medical Group, has given ten top sex myths that are most common among the male community.

From Timesofindia.indiatimes.com:

The first myth concerns the belief that a woman will not get pregnant if a guy ”pulls out” before ejaculation.

Men do not always know when ejaculatory fluid begins to seep out – and even ahead of a perceptible orgasm, pre-ejaculate (which includes sperm) is released and is enough to get a woman pregnant.

The second myth concerns thinking about someone else during the act, which is a bad thing to do.

A large part of the sexual experience starts with your brain, not your body, and sometimes your brain can wander. If you are committed to your lady, and your relationship is in a good place, it’s okay to think about Angelina Jolie or Megan Fox every now and then.

The third myth is the belief that premature ejaculation only affects young men.

Some men do find that premature ejaculation begins at the onset of sexual maturity, but plenty of men also find it to be an issue later in life. In fact, premature ejaculation affects 30 per cent of men at sometime in their lives.

Often, early ejaculation in men who are in their 30s or older is a co-symptom of erectile dysfunction or fatigue, poor cardiovascular conditioning, depression, anxiety, or neurological symptoms.

The fourth myth is about the belief that oral sex is safer than vaginal sex.

From teenagers to former President Bill Clinton, oral sex seems to have the stigma of a “free pass” as far as sexual relationships go. Yes, it does count as sex, and yes, you can get a sexually transmitted disease from oral sex.

In addition to that, penis size is in no direct relation to the amount of satisfaction that can be experienced with sex. Moreover, a man’s readiness for sex may be influenced by factors such as diet, sleep, health, stress, medical conditions, self confidence, and relationship disharmony.
