Hulk Hogan smacks down Cocoa PebblesWrestling star Hulk Hogan is about to sue Post Foods, the maker of Cocoa Pebbles, for an unauthorized use of his likeness.

It was stated by the lawsuit that Hogan was “shown humiliated and cracked into pieces with broken teeth,” and the wrestler’s permission was never sought or received.

From Business.financialpost.com:

Wrestling star Hulk Hogan is suing Post Foods, the maker of Cocoa Pebbles, for unauthorized and “degrading” use of his likeness.

The moustachioed WWE alumnus, whose real name is Terry Bollea, is not pleased with the similarities between himself and brawny blonde cartoon character, Hulk Boulder. He also does not take kindly to being smacked down by Flintstone progeny Bamm-Bamm, the uncommonly strong toddler.

The lawsuit also stated that “Hulk Boulder” was a name Hogan used early in his career and the same as that of the brawny blonde cartoon character.

Top groups urge G8 for improving health of children and womenTop scientific groups from the G8 countries recently said that funding must increase for maternal and child health, including initiatives aimed at unsafe abortions.

A statement from the groups communicated that up to 40 percent of infant and maternal deaths can be averted by improving access to contraception services and measures for minimizing unsafe abortions.

From ctv.ca:

The Conservative government has excluded abortion funding in its G8 maternal- and child-health initiative.

The scientific groups say governments and inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations must deal openly with unsafe abortions, and ensure appropriate and accessible treatment of women who develop complications.

“Provision of effective contraception for approximately 200 million women who have none would prevent 23 million unplanned births, 22 million induced abortions and 14,000 pregnancy-related maternal deaths each year,” the statement, released late Tuesday, reads.

The scientific groups also say practices such as female genital mutilation should be eradicated and the misuse of technology of prenatal sex determination for aborting female fetuses should be condemned.

The statement also disclosed that community shaping global political priorities for the health of children and women has been fragmented.

Congress will debate youth job funds, says SchumerU.S. Sen. Charles Schumer said $1 billion for youth summer jobs has been included in House and Senate legislation heading to floor debates slated for the next week.

Schumer, the New York Democrat, also said that the present unemployment rate of 21.5 percent among the youth pose a threat to economic recovery and prospects will not be easy for youth employment this summer.

From businessweek.com:

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer says $1 billion for youth summer jobs has been included in House and Senate legislation heading to floor debates next week and would bring about $50 million to New York.

The New York Democrat says the current unemployment rate of 21.5 percent among youths threatens the broader economic recovery, and prospects are tough for their employment this summer.

He says the so-called “disconnection rate” of 20 to 24 year olds who are neither enrolled in school nor employed rose to 28 percent last year.

In February, state Democratic legislative leaders said they’ll try to protect much of the $35 million for the state’s summer jobs program that Gov. David Paterson proposed eliminating. They have not adopted a state budget.

Zoil Ghana to employ youth brigade in Upper West

Posted by admin On May - 24 - 2010

Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Nii Nortey Dua, PledgZoil Ghana Limited, a subsidiary company of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, will be providing employment to a total of 2, 714 youths from the nine districts of the Upper West Region.

This youth population would be engaged in the new National Forest Plantation Development Programme and working in collaboration with the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).

From News.peacefmonline.com:

Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Wa, on Tuesday, Mr. Yakubu Yahaya, Acting Assistant Regional Operations Supervisor of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, said the programme was aimed at developing a sustainable resource base that would satisfy the future demand for industrial timber and enhance environmental quality.

This, he noted, would not only relieve the pressure on natural forests but also restore the degraded forest cover of the country, thereby, enhancing the greening Ghana concept.

Mr. Yahaya added that the programme would also reduce the wood deficit situation in the country.

“A target of about 2,714 hectares is to be planted and managed by the youth with each employee responsible for one hectare of land,” he stressed.

Yakubu Yahaya called on opinion leaders and chiefs of different communities for advising their people to desist from indiscriminate felling of trees and bush burning.

Free site access on mobiles for Facebook Users

Posted by admin On May - 22 - 2010

free site access on mobiles for facebook usersFacebook recently teamed up with 50 wireless operators for offering a stripped-down version of the social networking site to cellphone users. This facility will allow users to access without incurring data charges.

This new site, dubbed 0.facebook.com, can be termed as a text-only version of flagship internet site of Facebook and is particularly designed for mobile phones with limited bandwidth Internet connections.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

The new site will be available beginning on Tuesday in 40 different countries, including Brazil, India, Indonesia and Turkey from a variety of carriers.

The new site comes as the world’s largest Internet social network continues to grow its base and looks for ways to increase the amount of time Web surfers spend using its service.

At the company’s annual developer’s conference last month, Facebook introduced new technology that allows third-party Web sites to integrate Facebook features directly.

Roughly one quarter of Facebook’s 400 million users access the site on mobile devices, according to the company.

But Facebook wants to make the service more accessible to cell phone users who do not own high-end smartphones such as Apple Inc’s iPhone, or phones based on Google Inc’s Android software.

“We are targeting people whose major barrier is they have little experience on the mobile Internet. They want to try it, they want something super simple, super fast. And they are potentially afraid of browsing costs,” said Henri Moissinac, who heads Facebook’s mobile business. “If you take an iPhone user in San Francisco, that’s not his problem.”

Among the carriers partnering with Facebook are Reliance and Videocon in India (with Tata Docomo coming soon), T-Mobile in Hungary and Vodafone in Greece.

Henri Moissinac, who heads Facebook’s mobile business, said though this service is presently not available in the United States, the same is expected in the near future.

Arsenal about to face a fight to retain captain Cesc Fabregas
Arsenal appear set for a fight for holding onto captain Cesc Fabregas as Barcelona is adamant to publicly court the midfielder from Spain.

Fabregas is widely reported to have already communicated the manager, Arsene Wenger, about his intentions of returning home.

From ESPNStar.com:

Fabregas, who played alongside Lionel Messi in the Barcelona youth ranks before moving to Highbury, has long dealt with the constant rumours of him returning to Spain, but always reiterated his commitment to the Gunners.

Last week, however, the player himself delivered something of a mixed message when speaking at an event near the Spanish city, claiming if he ever left the Emirates it would be to wear the Barcelona shirt and that he wanted his future sorted before the World Cup.

Vice-president Rafael Yuste claimed Barcelona already have the “will” of the Spanish midfielder.

Key to Fabregas’ decision is thought to be whether he can fulfil his ambitions with the Gunners, who have now failed to land a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup.

Arsenal are obviously determined to keep their talisman, contracted to the club until 2014 and one of the biggest earners in the squad, but could now be resigned to losing him.

They would look to secure a £40million fee for a player who has always been integral to Wenger’s long-term plans.

Outgoing Barcelona president Joan Laporta was taken aback by Fabregas‘ comments last week.

Fabregas started his career in the Nou Camp youth system before he went to the Gunners as a 16-year-old in 2003.

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.  The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.-Henri Nouwen

She is a friend of mind.  She gather me, man.  The pieces I am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order.  It’s good, you know, when you got a woman who is a friend of your mind.-Toni Morrison, Beloved

Yes we are [friends] and I do like to pass the day with you in serious and inconsequential chatter.  I wouldn’t mind washing up beside you, dusting beside you, reading the back half of the paper while you read the front.  We are friends and I would miss you, do miss you and think of you very often.  I don’t want to lose this happy space where I have found someone who is smart and easy and doesn’t bother to check her diary when we arrange to meet.-Jeanette Winterson, Written on the Body, 1992

There is one friend in the life of each of us who seems not a separate person, however dear and beloved, but an expansion, an interpretation, of one’s self, the very meaning of one’s soul.-Edith Wharton

A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere.  Before him I may think aloud.  I am arrived at last in the presence of a man so real and equal, that I may drop even those undermost garments of dissimulation, courtesy, and second thought, which men never put off, and may deal with him with the simplicity and wholeness with which one chemical atom meets another.-Ralph Waldo Emerson
