Helping the youth!

Helping the youth! In my last post I talked about how youth in today’s times are so often seen to indulge in reckless behavior. Arrogance marks the prime manifestation of the stress that stays inherent in them today. Yes stress it is and most of us will also be surprised to know this. We many think that how come people indulging in such anti-social behavior be suffering from stress? The answer is simple my friends. Just like I always say that anyone who is happy in his life will never hurt or harm anyone. It is only when discontent arises within them that they spill the same around them. So let’s have a look at some measures we can employ to understand our youth better!

Listen to them!

The first step towards this starts from what we call active listening. You know most of us adults do not feel the need to even talk to youngsters because we think that since we are providing them with the best of everything, they shouldn’t be having any problems after all. Well, whatever best you might be doing for your kid, it may not be what they want to do or be in their best interest. Many of us don’t even give our youth the opportunity to choose what they think is right for them. Even if what you do is in their best interest, they themselves need to derive at this decision on their own. So never try to push them for it. If you do, they will pull away.

Listening actively to youngsters involves actually listening to what they have to say and not assuming what you want them to speak. Most of us do that and end up taking action based on what our demands are from them.

A simple thing that we need to understand here is that there can be a number of things they would want to do. However it is our job to give them choices that will provide an effective method towards them achieving their goal. So many young people get to doing mischief and hang around the streets out of boredom.  A simple way to combat this is to simply listen to them and then channelize their energy into doing something constructive.

Understanding the youth!

Understanding the youth!Present day society often blames the youth for bringing about many problems in their environment. The most common things that one gets to notice about youth today are anti-social behaviour, expulsion and arrogance. Well, if we try and look deeper into the issue, we’ll realize that these things arise when we as adults fail to understand our youth. Let’s know how!

One thing that clearly makes sense is that anyone who is happy and content with one’s life will never hurt anyone. It is only when people don’t know who they are and what their purpose in life is or are not guided properly that they indulge in reckless behaviour. But what do we do when we see them doing these things? Well, needless to say, we often start driving these people away, start pointing their flaws at them, start backfiring them with our remarks or at worst start excluding them from our life. Most of us would have a fair explanation towards this for our behaviour saying that who would want such elements around who dispel discomfort to them in particular and society in general.

But how many amongst us have actually tried to find out the true cause behind all this. Why does youth indulge in this? Are we as a society helping them develop a better approach in life? Has our hatred towards them helped them in anyway? These are a few questions which still remain unanswered.

So how do we go about solving this? As guardians, is patience and compassion towards our children. We need to understand that they are as much a part of us as much is our mind in our own body. Just as our mind goes haywire at times and we fail to fathom what’s right for us, the same happens with the youth too. Just that we need to be a more patient in handling what’s governing them to control it and make them understand what’s right for them.

In my next post, I’ll be extensively talking about the measures we can possibly employ to help our youth develop a positive spirit in life! So keep reading for more and be good!
